Most universities and colleges in Ireland follow two main intakes for students to study there: the September intake and the February intake.

September Intake:

The September intake is the main intake that Irish universities and colleges follow. It corresponds with the commencement of the academic year and is the preferred intake for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Applications for the September intake usually commence in November or December of the preceding year. It is advisable to initiate the research and application process well in advance to allow ample time for gathering the necessary documents and completing the application process.

February Intake:

The February intake also referred to as the Spring Intake, is an alternative intake available at select universities and colleges in Ireland. It offers additional flexibility for students who may have missed the September intake or require more time for application preparation. The application process for the February intake generally commences around September or October of the previous year. While not as widely offered as the September intake, the February intake still provides a good range of programs across various disciplines.

Certain institutions in Ireland may provide additional intakes for specific programs or during different times of the year.
