When you go to your visa interview, you must present Form I-20 to the consular officer.

Student Visa USA Processing Time
Visa Type |
Processing Time |
Description |
E-1 visa |
2 to 4 weeks |
The processing time for an E-1 visa is determined by the caseload of the US Embassy or USCIS if you applied from within the US. After the processing period has ended, you will be notified whether you have been granted or denied the visa. |
E-2 visa |
4 to 6 weeks |
It takes about 2 weeks if you are an employee. However, the processing time varies according to the US Embassy's workload, so if you do not receive an answer within those time frames, it does not mean that your visa application was denied. |
E-3 visa |
2 months |
The processing time might take longer as the Embassy might have a bigger workload. |
F-1 visa |
immediately after the interview |
The F-1 visa processing time is significantly shorter than other visas. This type of visa is processed before your interview. The interview is the final step for the US Embassy to determine whether or not to grant you an F-1 visa. In most cases, you will receive a response on this visa immediately following your interview. At the conclusion of the visa interview, the interviewer may congratulate you on obtaining the visa or provide you with a document informing you of the reason for the denial. There are instances where the response and processing of the F-1 visa takes a few days, so be patient if this occurs. |
F-2 visa |
Few days to 2 weeks |
Following your F-2 interview, you may receive an immediate response from your interviewer as to whether you were granted or denied the visa. However, it is more likely that you will have to wait a few days or weeks. This is because the US Embassy will take its time reviewing your documents and responses. They will pay close attention to your and the F-1 visa holder's financial situation to determine whether you can cover your expenses in the United States. |
J-1 visa |
1 to 4 months |
The Waiver Review Division will review your application and make a recommendation. They will forward the recommendation to USCIS, who will make the final decision on whether or not you will be allowed to stay. |
Q-1 visa |
15 days to 3 months |
Following the processing time, they will contact you to inform you whether or not your visa application has been approved. |
M-1 visa |
At least 4 weeks |
The M-1 visa processing time is relatively short. The processing takes place before your visa interview. Sometimes you receive a response immediately after your visa interview, with the interviewer congratulating you or explaining why your visa application was denied. |
B-1 visa |
A couple of weeks to 2 months |
The processing times for B-1 visas are approximate. This depends on the US Embassy's workload and other factors they consider. |
B-2 visa |
A couple of weeks to 2 months |
The processing times for B-2 tourist visas and US visitor visas vary by country. |
H-1B visa |
3 to 6 months |
However, because US embassies in different countries/cities have different processing times, it is best to contact them for more information or visit the US State Department or USCIS for approximate processing times. |
H-1B1 visa |
4 to 6 months |
The time is also affected by seasonal fluctuations, so you should contact the US Embassy where you applied for more information. |
H-2A visa |
Varies |
Processing times for H-2A visas vary due to seasonality, and it may take longer at times. It is recommended, however, that US employers file USCIS petitions at least 60 days, but no more than 120 days, before they require foreign workers. Because the US government prioritises H-2A visas, they expedite the process. |
H-3 visa |
4 to 6 weeks |
You must ensure that the institution petitions on your behalf at least 6 months before the start of the training programme. Following that, you must gather your documents and submit your application. Depending on the demand at your local US Embassy, it may take one to three months for them to respond with a final decision on whether or not you will be granted the H-3 visa. |
H-4 visa |
Varies |
Because your H-4 status is dependent on the status of the H-type visa holder, such as your spouse or parent, it may take as long as it takes for their visa to be processed. If your spouse is applying for an H-2A visa and you apply together, your visa will be processed at the same time as your spouse's. If you apply separately, the time it takes to process the H-4 visa will be determined by the US Embassy and its workload. |
USA Study Visas- Where You Should Apply
Any non-immigrant visa applicants, including applicants for F-1 visas, should normally apply for the visa at a consular office having jurisdiction over the alien's place of residence.
You may also apply for a usa student visa in bangladesh at any other consular jurisdiction where you are currently present, but only if that consular office has agreed to process visa applications from "third-country nationals". An F-1 visa can be issued no more than 120 days before the reporting date listed on Form I-20, but you can enter the United States no earlier than 30 days before the start date of the I-20 programme.
You can apply for an F-1 visa up to 120 days before the programme start date to allow for visa processing and security clearance delays, but even if you apply earlier, the consulate cannot issue the visa until 120 days before the programme’s start date.
What are the reasons for visa rejection for USA
Disheartened that your visa got declined? Well, keeping your hopes up is important as the F1 visa application will be denied based on US immigration law. If you are denied, your paperwork will include the reason and section of the law under which you were denied. Some applications are denied because the applicant did not provide the required information or supporting documentation. However, you may be found ineligible for other reasons at times.
Of course, if you do not meet the F1 Visa Qualifications listed above, you will be deemed ineligible. For example, under INA section 214(b), Visa Qualifications and Immigrant Intent, you will be denied if you do not sufficiently demonstrate that your strong ties to your home country will influence you to return home after your stay in the US.
Fraud or misrepresentation, unlawful presence in the United States, health-related grounds, criminal-related grounds, or security-related grounds are also common reasons for the denial. The US Department of State website is a great resource for learning more about visa denials and determining whether you are eligible for a waiver or to reapply.
Avoid Rejection of USA Student Visa
For people who want to study in the United States, there are two types of student visas for usa:
- The F-1 student visa is for 'academic' studies only.
- The M visa is intended for studies that are "non-academic or vocational."
Apply for your student visa to usa from Bangladesh three months before your planned trip to the United States. This will give you enough time if there are any delays at the embassy or if you wish to file an appeal if your visa is denied. Suppose you demonstrate your intent to stay in the United States after graduation. In that case, this is the most common reason that visa officers reject a student's F1 visa and the most important factor they consider during the visa interview. Try to make it as clear as possible that your only plan is to study in the United States and that you will return home after graduation.
What is a dependent visa USA?
At any time, an international student or scholar may be accompanied to the United States by his or her dependent(s).
- Spouses and/or unmarried minor children are considered dependents.
- Children over the age of 21 are not permitted to enter as dependents of international students or scholars.
- If you want to bring a dependent to the United States, you must notify our office using the Add a New Dependent eForm.
Dependents may apply for visas at the same time as the student/scholar or at a later date.If the visa is granted, they may enter the United States at the same time as the international student/scholar or at a later date. They will apply for a visa in the same manner as the student/scholar. Determining whether you have enough money to support yourself and your dependents is critical. The amount varies depending on the type of visa you have.
Dependents on Form F-2
F-2 dependents may be granted visas and admitted to the United States alongside you based on the Form I-20 issued in their names. An F-2 may remain as long as the F-1 is in service. If the F-1 student loses status, the F-2 loses status because his or her visa status is a derivative of the F-1. F-2 dependents, like F-1 students, are required to keep their passports valid at least 6 months into the future.
J-2 Dependents' Education and Employment
If your dependents are accompanying or joining you in the United States, they can obtain visas and admission to the country alongside you using Form DS-2019 issued in their names. Interns accompanied by dependents must show proof of additional funds sufficient to support them.
- For the spouse, an additional $500 per month is required.
- For each child, an additional $250 per month is required.
Dependent entry into the United States is only available to the spouse and unmarried minor children (under the age of 21). International students and scholars frequently want to bring their parents or other family members to the US for graduation or a visit. If an international student or scholar's parents or other family members, including children over the age of 21, wish to visit the United States temporarily, they may do so on a B-2 tourist visa.
