Lakehead students are among the top three in Ontario in terms of job preparedness. Lakehead alumni are job-ready, with an average employment rate of 96.7 per cent two years after graduation. Lakehead has been rated the Top Canadian University in Undergraduate Research for the past five years by Research Infosource (2015-2019). Lakehead University offers students unique hands-on research opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with more than 25 cutting-edge research facilities and 11 Canada Research Chairs. Smaller class sizes allow students to have a more customised University experience while also allowing them to be more involved in their studies. The Lakehead University ranking in the 601-800 category from over 1,500 universities from 93 countries. Academic advising, health and counselling, tutoring, leadership development, accessibility services, career development, study skills seminars, and other services are available to Lakehead students. The Lakehead University tuition fees range from $26000- $35000 per year.
Among the nine faculties that offer 57 undergraduate and 30 graduate and doctoral programmes are Education, Business Administration, Engineering, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, Medicine and Graduate Studies, Science and Environmental Studies, Natural Resources Management, and Science and Humanities. Lakehead University's two campuses collaborate to provide students with a wide range of intellectual programmes. The Orilla Campus in downtown Orillia, which has about 1,400 students, offers unique and unconventional multidisciplinary degrees that combine arts and science, business, social work, and teaching. Lakehead Thunder-bay Campus in southwest Ontario is where students can learn about forestry, nursing, business, kinesiology, social work, medicine, and law.

Lakehead University provides quite a reasonable sum as scholarships to its students. There are separate scholarships for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. There is the International Entrance Scholarship for UG students, which is based on students' academic achievement. The scholarship's value comes to CAD40,000 per year. There are scholarships available for Master’s and Doctoral students as well. This can come around CAD10,198 and CAD11,121, respectively. Students can also avail other scholarships offered by the government and trusts.
